BEST VIEWED ON A HEADSET
'Kids' is a 360Β° music video CREATED for OneRepublic, that choreographs over 100 people in
a four-minute-long single-takE THAT MOVES BETWEEN TWO ROOMS ON EITHER SIDE OF A STREET.
This film tells the story of a first romance between a boy and a girl that live across the street from one another in Mexico city. The camera
and therefore the audience impossibly travel between their rooms as the story unfolds and the street below prepares for an intimate OneRepublic performance. Most of the techniques I employ in this piece, were advised against i.e. moving the camera, the single-take etc. However through stubborn investigation and meticulous planning, this piece came together in a pretty mind blowing way. I am super grateful to my dream team at Here Be Dragons and MPC, as am I eternally thankful for my brilliant Line Producer Karen Rohrbacher and my First AD Scott Harris.
MAKING OF
TRADITIONAL MUSIC VIDEO
The film below is a traditional music video that I had to film the following day. It too is filmed in the style on a single take and tells the story of the same relationship, however it feels like a completely different piece. Filming both formats on two separate days was an epic challenge and would not have been possible if OneRepublic weren't such amazing and dedicated collaborators. A storm utterly wiped out the entire shoot mere seconds after the last shot you see in this film. Thankfully it was a great take. Keep and eye out for the rains drops as the song ends.
THE ORIGINAL SKETCH
Because I had to shoot two music videos in two days I imagined a location that would serve both styles. Moving the camera from room to room would make the most of the three dimensional space for 360Β°, and the street below would give me another playground to create a single take music video of a more traditional kind. Fortunately, I managed to find a location that checked all the boxes.
